November 2014: Good production followed by serious failure
by Kieran Monk
Production - 5,778 kWhrs Operational Hours - 112 Hrs
November started well with some excellent energy production and a more sustained deployment of the relief valve pressure regulating control strategy.
This however was not to last, for a second time due to carbon dust from the generator brushes, a short circuit occurred across two more diodes of the spinning rectifier. The same clean up-procedure was executed but on the second attempt a more serious short circuit occurred. Fortunately a video of the inside of the generator was being captured and this helped identify the location of the carbon bridge.
The intervention begins and a dust extraction system is under investigation in order to avoid the same situation in the future.
